How Does ScreenSteps Fill the Learning & Performance Gap? [VIDEO]

Three days ago, Theresa (made-up name) went through your required training on how to use the new system.

Now it’s time to apply what she learned.

She gets an email asking her to perform a procedure in the new system that she was just trained on. But ... she can’t remember what to do.

She can’t remember where to click, what questions to ask, or what information needs to be filled out.

Even though the training covered everything, Theresa’s having trouble putting what she "learned" during the formal learning event into action as she's working.

So, how can you help Theresa (and all of your other employees) fill that gap between formal learning and applying what she’s learned in her daily workflow?

That's where ScreenSteps comes in.

As the Head of Customer Success at ScreenSteps, I've helped customers created workflows that clear up processes and helped reduce the number of mistakes employees made on the job.

In this 4-minute video, I'll share how ScreenSteps helps bridge the training gaps, just like in Theresa's scenario.

What is a learning gap?

If you're in charge of training employees in any capacity, then the story above is very familiar. People leave training events and pass eLearning modules without being able to actually apply what they've learned in their day-to-day workflow.

That's because there's a gap. Cognitively, it's not simple to learn something in a classroom and immediately be able to apply it in the real world.

Everybody struggles with this. People don't retain 100% of what they are taught. Anybody who is in charge of teaching employees how to do their job experiences this gap at every training event.

How ScreenSteps fills the learning and performance gap

You can use ScreenSteps to bridge this gap by creating actionable learning assets that help employees apply what they were taught in their formal training to their daily routine.

You can provide employees with:

  • Checklists
  • Step-by-step guides with decision trees
  • Job aids
  • Reference articles
  • Videos
  • GIFs
  • And more

Employees can use these learning assets during the actual training itself AND after training while employees are doing their day-to-day routine.

The result is employees effectively applying what they learned during formal training, which helps your employees transfer what they learned during formal training to their daily workflow

How ScreenSteps helps when procedures change

Let's look at another scenario. What happens when a procedure changes?

Instead of taking employees away from work to do formal training every time there’s a change, you can make your updates to your learning assets in ScreenSteps or send a notification announcing the change. The next time employees use the learning asset they’ll be able to immediately apply the new information while doing their work.

Where ScreenSteps bridges the gap

Back to that story about Theresa, but this time using ScreenSteps.

Three days ago, Theresa completed that training on how to use the new system. The training included Theresa role-playing several scenarios while using step-by-step guides and checklists that are in ScreenSteps.

Today, Theresa gets a phone call and needs to perform a procedure in the new system. While she can’t remember all the details, she knows where to go for help. She pulls up the guide and checklist in ScreenSteps and uses it while she’s on the call without missing a beat.

She was able to perform the transaction perfectly, and without wasting any time.

Then, a month later, the procedure changes. Theresa was sent a notification in ScreenSteps letting her know about the change. The next time she had to perform the transaction she just pulled up the learning asset in ScreenSteps and followed the updated steps.

Again, she was able to perform the transaction perfectly without needing to take a break from work and she could apply the new information while simultaneously handling the transaction.

Want to empower employees with ScreenSteps?

When it comes to training, your employees often need support after formal training has ended.

It is difficult for employees to memorize everything that they need to do during training. It helps to have support resources — like help guides and checklists — to aid employees so they can correctly complete their tasks.

When you use ScreenSteps as part of your training strategy, your team will be able to create visual, clear, and dynamic learning assets that help employees bridge the learning and performance gap.
