How to Use the Screen Capture Tool in the ScreenSteps Desktop Editor [VIDEO]
Capturing screenshots for your help guides can take a lot of time. You may be familiar with the process of:
- Grabbing screenshots,
- Annotating those screenshots using something like Microsoft Paint,
- Saving it to their desktop, and
- Inserting the image into a Word document or a PowerPoint slide.
If you’ve ever had to do that, you know how much of a pain that can be, which is why you’re going to love using the ScreenSteps desktop editor.
Luckily, the ScreenSteps' screen capture tool turns that 4-step process into one easy step. As Head of Customer Success, I've taught new ScreenSteps users how they create content quicker using the screen capture tool.
In the video below, I show you how to use the screen snipping tool to grab multiple screenshots and then annotate those screenshots so you can quickly build step-by-step instructions.
How the screen capture tool works on the desktop editor
One perk of using ScreenSteps for your knowledge base is that ScreenSteps comes with an editor that combines a screen snipping tool, screenshot annotation, and text editing all in one.
It includes screen capture, annotation options, and drops the screenshots right into a document for you (no need to copy/paste).
Here's how it works:
- Open the ScreenSteps desktop editor and then minimize it (so it's out of the way)
- Perform the procedure while grabbing screenshots along the way
And that’s it.
ScreenSteps collects all of those screenshots so when you pull up the editor, all of those screenshots are waiting for you.
You can then add arrows, blur, squares, highlights, sequences, etc., and then include paragraph text and headings to complete the article and publish it to your ScreenSteps knowledge base or save it as a PDF.
There’s no faster way to grab several screenshots and create a step-by-step tutorial than with ScreenSteps.
"We couldn't believe how easy ScreenSteps was to use. We can create content in a 1/4 of the time."
